Recommendations
Local studies, Children, Teenage/youth, Adult Fiction
and Information/ Reference all these five services are using 2.0 technologies
in Parramatta libraries. All these
service are provided their official web and blog.
Library
2.0 is a way of providing library service through new internet technologies as
a platform of service on net.
Local Studies
- Parramatta City Library educating its staff members about Local
Studies/history by using 2.0 technology. The staff members are making a blog
about the history of entire community, area, people and library. It has plenty
of interesting stories and pictures, also variety of books provided on online
catalogue which is highly recommended.
Children’s
– Parramatta City Library have very good collection of
eresources for kids such as story book, detective book, video, games and
magazine for kids enjoyment. The library have plenty of activities for kids.
But my recommendation is to provide more children activities like musical or
physical.
Teenage/Youth
– Parramatta City Library also have various collection for
Teenage/youth for their enjoyment. My recommendation is to add more educational
programme for youth which will be help to build their future.
Adult Fiction- –
Parramatta City Library has large collection of adult fiction. Which is
serve the community sufficiently.
Information/Reference - – Parramatta City Library have well covered information/references
belongs to this service area. These library is serving for large community of l
where people can find about their items are looking for. Online services of the
library include a Facebook, twitter and RSS Feed, youTube, wikies and fliker
where people can interchange massage and opinion and get more information about
present library activities. Parramatta City library is generating more
innovative plan to improve the library facility for the community.
The example of libraries in the world who is using library 2.0 technology to its fullest are – The National Library of Australia (http://www.nla.gov.au/), The German National library (http://www.dnb.de/EN/wir), The New york Public (www.nypl.org).
Evaluation
Library 2.0 is a new way of providing library service
through new internet technologies, with emphasis on “user-centered” change and
interaction. Like web 2.0, a full featured library 2.0 OPAC gets better the
more that users are involved in the process of interacting with the catalogue
and sharing content.
Web 2.0 technology offers local studies librarians the
opportunity to expand their collections to new levels of depth and diversity.
Online collaborative technologies such as blogs and wikis that facilitate
user-generated content can be used to gather local knowledge from the
community. This paper explores the field
of local studies librarianship and the participatory web, identifying key
themes and concept and concepts involved in creating and managing collaborative
online projects.
Community Profile

My library is Parramatta city library.which is Western Suburb located
My library provides actual demographic information for people who are interested the needs of the clients that come to the Library.
Population of approximately
178,549 ERP 2012
Land Are 6,138 hectares
Population Density 29.09 per hectare
Robot
Library
workers are replacing by robot in work place. This is an interesting idea. I
like to brows shelves through Automated Books Delivery System (ABDS). The
librarian won’t be issuing or returning books anymore. They are free to do more
important work such reference enquiries and customer service. ABDS is not only
creating space but also create peoples time to have do real business. This is a
digital system to locate item. In this system people also order as many item as
they want.
Virtual brows is also another great idea. It is quick
to scrolling through a shelf which is time saver for the people who doesn’t
have enough time to visit library physically and go through the shelves. It
would be a great option is we look side the whole book what we can normally do
on a shelf. Now a days people just flick over the page and find the piece of
information. This digital ways is revolutionary idea in libraries. Digitations is
good idea where we can brows item when we sit on any other public transport and
order it as many books as we want rather than to visit the library.
Automated Book Delivery System and Virtual Brows
is a great combination of 21st century.
